_______OS X is the same way; it's *useable* with the stock 512MB but putting in more definitely helps things. I recently went from 768 to 1.5GB in my laptop and even that bump helped things a bit.

________I just threw a new stick of 1GB ram into my new laptop and I am pretty amazed with the performance increase. Who knew that 512mb of ram really isn't enough in Win XP. Anyways if anybody is running Win XP with less than a 1Gb of ram I would definitely recommend putting down the extra 70 bucks on another stick.

_______AWESOME! The aim log is working again. Yay! I modified the excellent aimbot JaimBot (http://jaimbot.sourceforge.net/ ) to get it up and running again. I am also running it with the open source java runtime GIJ, so hopefully that won't make it act wacky. So you can once again post to my website by iming rsd0tc0m.

Christmas was on a saturday so we had the option of getting monday off or having it added to our vacation time. Since I took friday off to travel home I get neither the vacation time or monday off. It's so comfortable, it's the first good bed I have owned. The beds at college were pretty abysmal, and my parent's beds were antiques. ________ So I am long overdue for a brief update on what's going on in my life. First off the big news, I have finally arrived in the Big City, New York, Manhattan, Gotham City. It's going really well, I am pleased with my decision and I am suprised that the move has actually gone through without any major set backs. I am going to be rooming with my friend Chan in the Upper Easter Area of Manhattan, the area is nice it is close to Midtown. The new job is going well, I really like the responsibility I have. I am pretty much the sole person in charge of the intranet, and while it isn't much now I have some big plans for it. I almost just splurged on an Imac, but instead I decided to splurge on a 19in. lcd screen, and maybe wait till the newer powerbooks come out with the G5 processor. _______ I bought a cd for the first time in years. I was so proud of myself. The Band is Bright Eyes, and it is an excellent album. I might have to make a habit of this buying an album thing. I am going to start painting on the weekends and I need some more music to listen to while doing so. So I figure I can buy more music and it's really just investing in my paintings. I am going to work on making developed and thoroughly worked on paintings. No more practice sketchy paintings, although I like doing those also. I am still working in Watertown at Magic-Hour. Biking back from dropping off my car in place it wouldn't be ticketing, a car took a right turn and I wasn't able to stop in time hitting it's back bumper. _______ So I was sick of the parking tickets I kept getting while staying with my sister in Brookline, and I have been looking for a bike for my graduation present for awhile. This weekend while I was driving up to the cabin I sard sale, that was selling some bikes. I was planning on shelling out some good money for a used bike but I found this older bike at the yard sale that was in great shape. I was ready to pay atleast 80 bucks for the bike, but the lady offered 25 for it, so I was happy to accept. It works pretty well I have been biking to work for the last two days and it's quite enjoyable. You are a little sweaty when you get to work, but nothing too bad. I have to say it's one of the better 30 dollar purchases I have made. This job is winding up in a week or so (maybe), so I don't know what will become of me after that. Probably back up to Maine to look for more work. I think I am going to break down and shell out the money for a new motherboard, so I can start using my primary computer again. Yup that's about the latest in the world of Russ. I hope you didn't zone out too much in this long winded post .

________ It's official I have made the switch.... to gentoo that is! Sorry debian, you were a good distro but your flaws were becoming too apparent. Gentoo is pretty suive, I like starting from the bare essentials and then building up from there. I was able to get my motherboard's sound card working which is excellent cause my soundblaster live is dead as a of a couple weeks ago. So yeah I recomend it as a distro but maybe not for a linux newbie, I still recomend knoppix for your first linux distro and I still say debian is better for a server although not as a clear winner (I am using it for ed, which is currently serving russellsavage.com).

_______I actually bought a game the other day. It's been awhile for me, I mainly just play the demos and whatnot. It's a racing game called Karnaaj. Stupid name but not a bad game at all. The price was right (10 bucks) and I read a review on it that said it was a solid racer. So I decided to reward them for their lack of greed in their pricing scheme.
_______Well by the time you read this I should be on the road already. I decided to take off the rest of the week and just start driving west. _______w00t I picked up a treasure trove up computer parts behind morril today. It much surpassed that old 286 I got awhile back. These are computer parts that they are throwing out, or atleast that is what I assumed since they are being placed outside in the rain and snow for days at a loading dock. Now granted I don't know if any of these things work but I was able to snag two good 15 inch monitors, a packard bell 486 50 mhz (with cdrom and floppy hard-drive sound card), and a scanner! Now all I need is a bunch of computer power cables. So if anybody can hook me up?
________I have been using the browser phoenix for the last couple of days and I am really impressed. Everyone should download it and use it as their main browser mozilla.org. It's faster then explorer, which is the first time I can honestly say that for a non-IE browser. Plus there is that added perk that you won't feel like Bill Gate's bitch anymore . _______So, I know what I am getting for Xmas. Maybe that ruins the fun of it, but I am still psyched about it. I am getting a new barebones system AMD 2100+ with DDR 400 ram, from access micro. I searched around for that power of a system they had the best prices. The case is pretty suive too. It cost me like 370 all together and my only comprimise is that I only got 256 mb of ram but I figured I could upgrade that later.

_______Bleh! My coffee mug smells like something died in it. I have cleaned it out really thoroughly with dish detergent but can't seem to get the smell out. Has anyone had this problem before? Any solutions?
_______So my roommate really sucks. He plays his damn music loud while I am sleeping. He is just inconsiderate in general. So tomorrow I am going to Housing so I can move out. I seem to be struggling to keep up on the school work lately but I am slowly digging my way out of the slight homework hole I dug myself into. That's it for now, I wish I had better news to report on, but I am sure things will get good again soon.
_______Well I moved out. I am still in Central but now in the Gorman dorm. Everyone on the floor seems really nice so that is cool. My roommate seems like a good guy so that is a plus too. So in general looks like my moving was a real good idea.

_______I am attempting to make Linux my primary operating system. Debian to be exact (a form of linux). It's going pretty good, it's had it's difficult times. But I almost have sound working and once I get that I will be golden. As a stupid Marines poster once said "It's not for everyone but that's the point". I think that can sum up the Linux experience. It has some really cool aspects of it especially for the computer geek. I am planning on running it as my main OS until I upgrade my computer, which will probably be this Christmas. Then I will decide if I want to stay with Linux or go back to windows or flip flop.

________I went hang gliding this weekend and I finally got to launch off the top of the mountain! It was excellent. The 250' that I normally launch off of just doen't compare. Off that you, as soon as you launch you have to start thinking about your landing. But with the 450' you have time to glide and enjoy the flight before you get low enough to worry about your appraoch and landing. It was a great weekend as a whole also. It's too bad winter has to come around. I could do this for awhile longer.
